Cavalier Cavalry - Khyber Server, DDO

Catacombs Review

If you're pressed for Turbine Points and need one, and only one, mission pack to blow off, this is the one. Without a doubt, the most boring, lootless, ancient set of quests in the game, this pack really has nothing to offer but a big boost to your Silver Flame favor. The only class that is perfectly suited for this is a Tempest Ranger with the Undead Favored enemy, a turning Cleric won't have enough time or spell points to deal with the hordes of undead sent your way, but any class can solo this at level with the addition of just about any Cleric hireling in the game.

The quests are all straight forward beat-the-undead down dungeon crawls with a minimal ammount of puzzling, searching, traps, and loot. More frustrating is the fact they are all seperated by a spiral public area that will boot your hireling and force you to probably use two for a chain that's probably not worth one. Your only consolation is at the end, you do get to kick the ass of the SOB that made you climb all those stairs over and over and over again.

The Friar's Niece - You do half of the level, and are unable to really rack up any bonuses. Zerg it and get it over with.

To Find A Witness - You can clear all the level, the same one as before, so do so to get max XP, if you've a mind to.

The Old Archives - This is the closest to "fun" the quest pack gets. You'll collect the three parts of the books behind the hidden doors, and there seems to be some variety to the fights and experiences in the dungeon. The highlight of your time with the Silver Flame.

The Crypt of Gerard Dryden - Oh god, the most tedious of the quests. Find help to break all the sarcophagii and to deal with the large numbers of bursting undead as you move around the square twice. If alone, try to zerg, and forget the ransack bonus unless you seriously need a time suck.

Setting The Wards - A two parter, the first is a simple "unlock the center bosses" crawl, the second is the same, only ending with a "run away from the indestructable monster".

Endgame - Climb and destroy. No loot.

Archbishop's Fate - Anticlimatic ending when you can just mob the boss and then sweep up the trash. Minimal XP and no loot.

The end rewards are uninspiring with two exceptions, both of which are Ghost Touch, Lesser Undead Bane, Silver weapons. The Blade of the Inquisition is the longsword and is a serviceable weapon for many lower level quests. Eternal Rest is the handwrap version, and can see service with Dominion Monks throughout their time in DDO.

Pros: Easy fights, Silver Flame Favor, Monk weapon in end loot.

Cons: Repetative, tedious quest design, The Crypt of Gerard Dryden, poor end loot for those who are not monks.
