Quest Walkthrough - Korthos Island

Heyton's Rest

Heyton's Rest is the first quest that a new person will probably interact with after completing the introductory quest "The Grotto". It is, storywise, the first in the series of quests that will unlock the Korthos Island Wilderness Area, and the content located within. It can be played at Casual, Normal, Hard, and Elite levels.

You find Heyton's Rest by finding Kaja Bauerdatter, who is near a set of Korthos Island trainers.

Once she bestows the quest, you'll enter the quest due west, where the door icon has turned from grey to yellow, into the Heyton Family Crypts.

Quest entrance, Heyton's Rest

Upon entrance, you'll see a cowering man next to a lever. You cannot operate the lever, you must talk to Jacoby Drexelhand. He'll confront you, but just tell him to let you pass. he's kinda a milquetoast kinda guy, and probably not worth the time of a true adventurer as you.

If you're of a mind for maximum XP, you'll want to break every sarcophagus you come across. But almost immediately upon entry, you'll encounter your first enemy, the dreaded small brown spider.

Small Brown Spider, kill or be killed. (Probably kill, even for level 1s.)

Next you will come to a T-intersection.

1st Intersection

Map, 1st Intersection

If you're in the mind for max XP, go left and break all the sarcophogii and kill the three small brown spiders.

Left Corridor - to Spiders and closed gate

If you're zerging, however, this is completely optional and you should go right.

Right corridor - to Spiders, chest, and levered gate

After a couple more Small Brown Spiders, you'll come to another T-intersection with a lever operated gate to the right and a chest in the middle of it. You'll want to throw the lever and enter that door. Inside the chest is some demo weapons to illustrate the difference between bludgeoning and slashing damage, the Rusty Mace and Rusty Sword. Unless you're really rusty, leave 'em. They're starter stuff so you can't even score a copper.

Go down the corridor behind the door. You'll find a zombie and a skeleton, along with a Sahuagin Adept. They're beside an Altar to the Devourer. After smashing the monsters, smash the altar and pick up the crest that drops beside it, you'll need it later.

Back up, and down the corridor straight in front of you. There's a pair of Small Brown Spiders waiting before a levered gate. Kill them quick.

After passing through, you'll come to another T-intersection. You're going to go straight through the door in front of you to destroy the Sahuagin Adept and the 2nd Devourer Altar.

Back up, and down the long corridor. Breaking the sarcophagii here may produce additional skeletons. You'll come to a four-way intersection containing a zombie and a pair of skeletons.

To the north is a mysterious barrier flanked by three sockets.

For the time being, though, you'll want to continue west, killing a pair of Zombies and coming to another T-intersection.

To the left is a tempting treasure chest in a pool of water. As you walk in, the gate will close behind you and the lever there is locked.

Becareful when you approach the chest, it's a trap! Just ease into the water and let it go, if you don't have a rogue to disarm it. Collect your loot.

It's a Trap!

Cross over to the other side of the water and throw THIS switch to open up the gate that closed. (If you throw the other switch now, it's unlocked, the gate back to the entrance will open. The spiders used to be able to get you, but the water's now too deep.)

Now you're ready to enter the last door and destroy the third altar for the last crest, the Octopus.

Go back to the 4-way intersection, and move north to the mysterious barrier. Click on each of the three sockets (w/ a crest in your inventory) to insert them and remove the barrier.

...three.

And the barrier is down!

And now is the final fight. The undead will rush you, but the Sahuagan Adept may not notice you at first. If you're lucky, you can bash the undead before fighting the Fish-people mage. After that, it's time to wreck the main Altar to the Devourer and collect your chest.

The quest reward is picked back up from Kaja Bauerdatter, your choice of the Amulet of Inner Focus or the Amulet of the Brute. Both bind to character, but can be sold to a vendor (not starter equipment).
